چکیده

• In the treatment of human hypertension, the effectiveness of sodium restriction by either dietary means or natriuretic agents is now well established. This response to sodium restriction suggested that hypertensives might suffer from an increase in total body sodium. The first measurements of the sodium content of individuals with hypertension were done, in 1951, by the technique of isotopic dilution using Na-. With the exception of one report, the original observations have been confirmed repeatedly :~° exchangeable sodium in the hypertensive was not increased. In the single discordant report, some cases of severe hypertension were found to have an increase in (exchangeable) sodium, but this was interpreted to be secondary to the disease, rather than primary, because it occurred almost exclusively in individuals with advanced hypertension, presumably with markedly impaired 7enal function. In 1953, it was observed that when the average salt consumption of rats was increased, the mean systolic pressure increased linearly. Humans showed a similar type of correlation : As the average salt consumption of a community increased, the prevalence of hypertension increased linearly. Such observations indicated a fundamental role of salt in the pathogenesis of hypertension. They were interpreted as showing that chronic excess salt consumption plays a primary role in the etiology of human hypertension."' In view of these developments, we were led to reconsider the possibility that there might exist in hypertension some defect in sodium metabolism which was not put into evidence by the earlier isotopic studies. Therefore dur-

Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Eating Plan: Beyond the Hypertension

Background and Objectives: Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating pattern, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy with a reduced content of sodium, saturated fat, and total fat is introduced as an appropriate diet for hypertension. This eating pattern was basically designed to normalize blood pressure in patients with hypertension, and a large body of d...

Evaluation of QRS, QTc, and JTc intervals in Congenital Heart Disease with Pulmonary Hypertension

Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in congenital heart disease affects the patient’s prognosis. Prolonged QRS and QTc intervals in ECG may intensify life-threatening dysrhythmia in patients. We aimed to investigate the correlation between QRS, QTc, and JTc intervals prolongation in ECG with PH in Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) patients. Mate...

Evidence Based Conservative Management of Patello-femoral Syndrome

Background:   Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is defined as pain surrounding the patella when sitting with bent knees for prolonged periods of time or when performing activities like ascending or descending stairs, squatting or   athletic activities. Patella dislocation is not included in PFPS.     Purpose:   This review analyzes the evidence based conservative management of PFPS.   Methods...

Riboflavin Lowers Blood Pressure: A Review of a Novel Gene-nutrient Interaction

Hypertension, defined as a systolic/diastolic blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or greater, is estimated to carry a three-fold increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Evidence from genome-wide association studies has identified an association between blood pressure and the gene encoding the folate-metabolising enzyme, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Recent meta-ana...

Impact of Prolonged Fraction Delivery Time Modelling Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy with High Dose Hypofractionation on the Killing of Cultured ACHN Renal Cell Carcinoma Cell Line

Introduction: Stereotactic body radiotherapy delivers hypofractionated irradiation with high dose per fraction through complex treatment techniques. The increased complexity leads to longer dose delivery times for each fraction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of prolonged fraction delivery time with high-dose hypofractionation on the killing of cultured ACHN cells.Method...
